We've had reports of this many times in the past, and I thought this was now fixed.

Can you verify the RadRails version you are running? http://www.aptana.com/docs/index.php/Determining_your_Aptana_version#Determining_your_RadRails.2FPHP.2FAIR.2FiPhone_version

I'm seeing this issue as well - it happens quite often.

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) on a Thinkpad 2Ghz - 2GB RAM

Please note that it's not a fresh install of Gutsy, I have progressively upgraded from Edgy > Feisty > Gutsy.

Aptana version 0.2.9.17048

Matt Smith - 27/Dec/07 03:27 PM
I think I got the version number wrong in the above comment. That was the number listed in the "About Aptana" dialog.

The radrails version number is 0.9.1.20071113

So in the past a user reported the indexing process going haywire on his Ubuntu install and basically started recursively scanning his entire drive. We were never able to do anyything about it because I couldn't reproduce it.

He mentioned symlinks in his projects (recursive ones). Do eitehr of you have symlinks in any of the projects in your workspace or in your ruby library or gems directories?

Unfortunately I'm on Window 99% of the time I'm developing so on issue where it only seems to happen on *nix platforms, I often am unable to reproduce them (I don't have any room on this HD or a spare box to throw Ubuntu on).

Matt Smith - 28/Dec/07 12:19 PM
Yes!

I did have a few projects in my workspace that were in a symlinked path. I've removed them for now, and will post back with what I find.

If you'd like me to try and force the error and generate any debugging output, I'm happy to do so - I just need a bit of guidance on how to generate and post relevant data.

thanks,
matt

Can you add an option to turn on/off the rhtml code auto-complete as a workaround? i don't see an option in the preferences.

Matt Smith - 29/Dec/07 09:33 AM
I second this suggestion. An option to turn off auto-complete would be great.

Chris Williams - 02/Jan/08 11:19 AM
That option already exists and is off by default. Please check Window > Preferences > Aptana > Editors > ERB/RHTML Editor > Code Assist.

Did removing the symlinks resolve this issue (or change anything)?

After removing symlinked projects, the frequency of the issue occurring went down dramatically. However, last night the crash happened again.

Thanks for the tip on turning this off. I'm going to leave it on, hopefully I can figure out the pattern behind what user behavior causes this - as it doesn't happen everytime I type it.

Tristan Leo - 06/Jan/08 11:14 AM
I can confirm this on Ubuntu/Gutsy with Aptana 1.0.2 and RadRails 0.9.1.200711131528NGT.
Every time I type ctrl+space Aptana freezes. Code Assist is turned off.
I don't have any symlinks in my project.

Matt Smith - 19/Jan/08 10:38 AM
Since last posting a comment, I have wiped my laptop and re-installed Ubuntu (for various reasons unrelated to this problem)

Since reinstalling, I have not experienced the problem.

My last instance of Ubuntu went through two upgrades: Edgy -> Feisty -> Gutsy, along with the associated Aptana upgrades. I'd be curious to know if others experiencing this problem are on a fresh OS install or have an upgraded one.

Tommy - 19/Jan/08 10:57 AM
I have upgraded to Leopard OS X 10.5 and the associated Aptana updates. It STILL crashes. This really needs to be fixed...

Chris Williams - 21/Jan/08 09:16 AM
Tristan and Tommy: What version of RadRails are you guys using? Have you tried updating to 0.9.3 and seeing if that helps any?

If there are any pro users watching this ticket, please try tomorrow's nightly. RadRails 1.0.2 should be released in a day or two as well and may contain a possible fix for this.

Chris Williams - 13/Jun/08 11:22 AM
I think this will be fixed in 1.0.2

I don't know if it ever was fixed in 1.0.2, but I've never had this issue before until I upgraded to 1.0.3 today. Exact same issue as everyone else here has been reporting. I'm running on windows, and typing <%= just locks up everything until I have to force quit.
