 Description  « Hide
I would love to see Git integration with RadRails that is ready for primetime. Basically, think Subclipse for Git. Git repository browsing, Git committing, Git pulling, etc. It could work exactly the same. Only difference is that "commit" would be committing to the local repository and then there would be an additional command "push" for sending it to a remote repository.

There is an active project working on an eclipse git plugin. Unfortunately they don't host an update site or pre-compiled binary JARs. I've compiled the latest code and set up an update site for you guys to be able to grab it. Again this is a third-party plugin, but we wanted to make it easy for people to get it and use it.

The update site is up at: http://update.aptana.com/install/git/, and there should be a listing in the Plugin Manager (hit the puzzle icon in the Aptana perspective toolbar to open it) to install it. (Plugin Manager may have a cached copy of the XML feed. Try it and if you don't see it, give it a couple seconds to grab a new copy, restart Aptana/Eclipse and try again to see if it's there).

Adam Block - 03/Jun/08 02:21 PM
The listing shows up in the Plugin Manager but when I try to install I get the error: 'Eclipse Git Feature (0.3.1.200806031318) requires plug-in "org.junit".' How do I resolve that dependency? Thanks!

Chris Williams - 03/Jun/08 03:59 PM
Sorry I fixed the dependencies to what the git plugin really needs. It seems they actually Need Eclipse 3.3+ to work (despite saying it works on 3.2). So only those using Aptana as a plugin in Eclipse 3.3 or 3.4 will be able to make use of the Git plugin for now. We might try and package backports of the necessary 3.3 plugins in the update site so 3.2 and Aptana standalone users can make use of this.

I would love to have a decent GIT plugin working like Subclipse in the Aptana / RadRails plugin for Eclipse 3.2 on Ubuntu 8.04.

melvin ram - 30/Aug/08 09:32 PM
What's the status on this?

Nathan - 01/Sep/08 08:32 AM
Indeed. Is there any chance of getting this working in Aptana Standalone? I would very much enjoy being able to use a git interface through aptana.

Chris Williams - 03/Sep/08 03:59 PM
To be able to use Git in Aptana Standalone we need to move to using a newer Eclipse version as our base. We have plans to move to 3.4, but that'll be after Studio 1.2 and RadRails 1.1 are done (which are all tied to Cloud).

In the meantime, we offer the git plugin to use if you install Aptana into Eclipse 3.3 or 3.4.

Is the git plugin on the update site regularly updated from the current development of eclipse git plugin ? Is it compatible with Linux 64 bits ?

Chris Hapgood - 04/Dec/08 09:42 AM
The fix version for this issue needs to be corrected.

Chris Williams - 04/Dec/08 03:04 PM
We created a snapshot of the Git plugin which we host - we haven't been updating it to their latest releases. They now offer an update site at: http://www.jgit.org/update-site/

The fix version for this issue is correct. It is targeted at RadRails 1.2, which is tied to Studio 1.3 (which is our current target to move to Eclipse 3.4).

I love the innovation that Aptana is showing. But I can't buy the standalone version until it has Git support. I'm hoping it will be released soon. Thanks!

Chris Williams - 18/Feb/09 08:14 AM
The latest RC release of Studio, 1.3, is built on Eclipse 3.4.1, so it can support the Git plugin as is. Please try it out: http://aptana.com/studio/download#aptana_rc. Once you run it, it should pop up an install wizard with features to install - one of which is the Git plugin (under Other > SCM > Git).

Chris Williams - 18/Feb/09 03:40 PM
I'm going to mark this resolved for 1.2.0, because 1.2.0 is Eclipse 3.4 and Studio 1.3+ compatible - and that is what the Git plugins run on. Studio 1.3 will include an install wizard to easily install RadRails and other features like the Git plugins.

Only tie things resolved in 1.1.2 and 1.2.0 to 1.1.2 as fixed version (since it's assumed that 1.2.0 as a later release will contain all the previous release's bugfixes).
